We heard via the school that there was going to be an event at a local centre, in order to raise funds for the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami Appeal. It was held last Saturday between 11am and 3pm.
We went along to support and I couldn't believe the amount of people there, let alone the level of organisation that had gone into it.
They were demonstrating origami to the children, selling various gifts, toys and books, and also sandwiches at 10p each! It was amazing how much had gone into it so quickly after the tragedy! I couldn't help wondering whether we would have been able to stage something so professionally in such a short space of time.
We heard today that in those 4 hours they managed to raise a fantastic £16,500, even though it was straight after Red Nose Day.
Well done to the local Japanese community and St Albans as a City, makes you feel proud :)
